He is impressed by the item and inquires if Gazef knows it full capabilities. Ainz uses magic to analyze Razor Edge, before handing it back to Gazef. At first Brain thinks Gazef is giving up, but Gazef chastises him saying such disgraceful things as Ainz is not that kind of person. To the shock of Brain, Gazef's acquiesces and presents Ainz the handle of his blade. Before a battle can commence, Ainz makes a surprise request to examine Gazef's sword. The mercenary with a heavy heart acknowledges this and stands proud to see Gazef's defining moment. Brain is despondent at Gazef's words, but Climb offers some words of encouragement to his friend to honor Gazef's last wish. To Climb and especially Brain, Gazef's asks them to witness his last battle. Part of the motivation for Gazef's intent to die is to soften the hatred of the royal family for the loss of so many of the Kingdom's people. The Warrior Captain has no wish to be revived and doesn't care of what happens to his body afterwards. Ainz begins to promise Gazef that in the event of his death, he will preserve the corpse and prepare it for resurrection, but the offer is declined by Gazef. Hearing the undead accept terms causes Brain to kneel in despair.
Ainz admiring the determined eyes of Gazef, accepts his one-time ally's proposal. The Warrior Captain asks that he does not accept Brain's request and only hopes that the Sorcerer King will spare his two friends. Ainz is indifferent in having the two fight against him as it makes no difference.
Gazef though shouts at him not to insult his determination as a warrior as he intends to duel alone. Brain protests this as he wants to die alongside his old rival and pleads with the Sorcerer King to allow him to duel him with Gazef. The Warrior Captain then restates his formal challenge to the Sorcerer King for a one-on-one duel, this time adding Brain Unglaus and Climb to serve as witnesses. To Ainz he finds that it is a pity that he cannot change the human's mind, because as a collector he detests eliminating rare specimens. Gazef laughs and states that he is only doing this as the Warrior Captain of the Kingdom.Īinz warns that if they do duel, then he will not hold back, and yet Gazef still show no sign of backing out. This causes AInz to asks if the man is trying to push is luck when he said that he would not kill him. Despite the overwhelming display of force, Gazef is not undaunted. Ainz admits that while the distance between them has narrowed, he still has to contend with an obstacle and indicates to the Dark Young looming behind him, which at the undead's subtle order strikes a tentacle just beside the Warrior Captain to display its power. Gazef merely answers that he is just taking advantage of pointing his sword at the enemy king since he is within range. Ainz tells Gazef that originally he had no intention of killing Gazef, but the human's logic is confounding as he sees the purpose of the duel pointless as Gazef has no way to defeat him. The human states that he is, despite knowing that he will die, causing Ainz to wonder if Gazef is suicidal.
Upon hearing Gazef Stronoff's request for a one-on-one duel, Ainz Ooal Gown asks the Warrior Captain if he is serious.
